What if we are living in the last days?
Look at what is happening around the world.
Wars. Fear. Confusion. Natural disasters. Moral decline. Uncertainty about the future.
Recently, severe flooding and landslides have affected parts of Nepal and the Tibet region, bringing destruction, loss, and suffering to many people.
When we see events like these, it is natural to ask:
“Are these signs of the last days?”
The Bible does speak about difficult events that will happen before the return of Christ.
Jesus said in Matthew 24 about wars, famines, earthquakes, and other troubles.
But we need to be careful.
We should not look at one particular flood, earthquake, war, or disaster and say, “This proves that the end has arrived.”
Jesus Himself warned us not to be deceived.
The important question is not simply:
“Can we identify the exact sign?”
The more important question is:
“Are we spiritually ready?”
Because whether the last days are closer than we think or whether we still have many years ahead, one thing remains true:
Our life is temporary.
We don't know how long we have.
We don't know what tomorrow will bring.
And we don't know the day or hour when Christ will return.
So what does everyone need in the last days?
First, everyone needs Jesus Christ.
Jesus said in John 14:6:
“I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
Our greatest need is not political security.
It is not wealth.
It is not technology.
It is not knowing every detail of Bible prophecy.
Our greatest need is Jesus Christ.
Second, everyone needs repentance.
Acts 3:19 says:
“Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out.”
Repentance means turning away from sin and turning toward God.
Don't wait for a crisis before you seek God.
Don't wait until you are afraid.
Don't wait until you think the end is near.
Turn to God today.
Third, everyone needs faith.
When we see disasters and suffering around the world, fear can easily take control of our hearts.
But faith means trusting God even when we don't understand everything.
Proverbs 3:5 says:
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart.”
When people are suffering because of floods, earthquakes, wars, or other disasters, our response should not simply be speculation about prophecy.
We should also have compassion.
We should pray for those who are suffering.
We should help where we can.
And we should remember that every person has eternal value before God.
Fourth, everyone needs God's Word.
Jesus warned about deception in the last days.
Matthew 24:4 says:
“See that no one leads you astray.”
There are many voices online claiming to know exactly what is happening.
Some people announce dates for the end of the world.
Others claim that every disaster is a specific Bible prophecy being fulfilled.
We need discernment.
We need to read Scripture carefully.
Don't allow fear to replace biblical understanding.
Fifth, everyone needs love.
Jesus warned in Matthew 24:12:
“Because lawlessness will be increased, the love of many will grow cold.”
When the world becomes frightening, it is easy for our hearts to become angry, bitter, and fearful.
But Christians are called to love.
When people suffer, we should care.
When people are afraid, we should encourage them.
When people are searching for answers, we should point them toward Christ.
Sixth, everyone needs perseverance.
Jesus said in Matthew 24:13:
“The one who endures to the end will be saved.”
Following Christ requires faithfulness.
Don't give up because the world is difficult.
Don't abandon your faith because you don't understand everything happening around you.
Keep praying.
Keep trusting.
Keep following Jesus.
Seventh, everyone needs to be ready.
Jesus said in Matthew 24:44:
“Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.”
Notice that Jesus did not tell us to calculate the exact date.
He told us to be ready.
Being ready means living faithfully today.
If you need to repent, repent today.
If you need to forgive someone, forgive today.
If you have walked away from God, return to Him today.
If you have never trusted Christ, seek Him today.
Don't wait for tomorrow.
And finally, everyone needs hope.
When we see suffering around the world, including the devastating effects of floods and natural disasters, we are reminded that this world is not permanent.
But Christians have hope.
Our hope is not that this world will never experience suffering.
Our hope is in Jesus Christ.
Revelation 21:4 gives us this promise:
“He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more.”
One day, God will make all things new.
So when we see disasters, wars, suffering, and uncertainty, let them remind us not only to ask:
“Is this the last days?”
But also:
“Am I ready?”
Because the most important preparation is not storing up possessions.
It is not trying to predict every event.
It is not becoming obsessed with dates and theories.
The most important preparation is being right with God.
Know Jesus.
Repent of sin.
Trust God's Word.
Stay spiritually awake.
Love others.
Persevere in faith.
And keep your eyes on Christ.
We don't know exactly when the Lord will return.
But we know what Jesus told us:
“Be ready.”
So don't live in panic.
Live in faith.
Don't live in fear.
Live in hope.
Don't spend all your time trying to predict tomorrow.
Live faithfully today.
Because whether Christ returns soon or our earthly life ends before then, we will all eventually stand before God.
The question is not simply:
“When will the last days come?”
The question is:
“Am I ready to meet Jesus?”
Be ready.
Be faithful.
Keep your eyes on Jesus.
And when you see suffering in the world, don't just look for signs.
Look for opportunities to pray, to love, to help, and to share the hope of the Gospel.
Because the world needs hope.
And that hope is found in Jesus Christ.
